I come from the model 20th century American family. My grandfather was a USMC veteran of the Pacific Theatre, he came home and married his sweetheart, an Irish immigrant from the Bronx. They moved out to Levittown where my grandfather used his hands to support five children, working as a carpenter and small business owner. My other grandfather was a Teamster from Queens and drove his rig all over the city during the heyday of the union.
